In 1987, Ferrari introduced this prototype prior to the delivery of the F40 in 1988. This prototype was more of a racing version with details similar to the Group B homologation model: 288 GTO Evoluzione. Its focus was on lighter weight and being competitive on racetracks. Compared to the production model, this model is far more competitive with sliding side windows, 1 piece wheels and other details.
